This morning (December 31), Jiwei sought confirmation from industry sources that SMIC had obtained a licence for the mature US manufacturing process.In other words, SMIC's acquisition of products, equipment and technology related to the mature process, as well as the continued provision of contract manufacturing services, are likely to be included in this license.
The specific calibration range of the so-called mature process is not known for the moment, but from the consensus of the industry, it may be 28nm or above.On SMIC's official website, 14nm is labeled as advanced logic technology, while 28nm, 40nm, 55/65nm and 90nm all fall under the category of mature logic technology.
According to smic's three-year quarterly financial report, the combined revenue of 14+28nm only accounted for 14.6 percent, indicating the importance of lifting the ban on mature processes.
Perhaps buoyed by the good news, SMIC's A shares rose 7.5% on December 30, while its Hong Kong shares rose as much as 16% in intraday trading.
